Dee Daniels -- Sophisticated Ladies
Whether accompanying herself at the piano or fronting a trio, big band or symphony, Dee's musical career is as varied as her four-octave vocal range is thrilling. She is a unique talent who brings her gospel background, blues flavouring, and jazz styling to the symphonic stage. "Daniels' voice has a hypnotic quality, delivering an impressive range that gave the romantic songs and verse of 50 years ago new life and raw emotion."
Dee has performed throughout the United Kingdom, Africa, Egypt, Hong Kong, North America, Australia, Japan and several European countries, including Belgium where she gave a command performance for the King and Queen. Her appearance at the Hollywood Bowl received glowing reviews, as did a starring role in the original musical comedy, Wang Dang Doodle, her first venture into the world of theatre.
Dee has toured with the Nord Netherlands Symphony Orchestra, performed Songs From Disney Movies with the Munich Radio Orchestra, and recorded with The Metropole Orchestra of Holland and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, to mention a few. She regularly tours her pops programs Great Ladies of Swing and The Soul of Ray: The Music of Ray Charles with orchestras throughout the United States and Canada.
Throughout her career, Dee has had the privilege of performing with such legends of Jazz as the late Sarah Vaughan, Lionel Hampton, and Joe Williams. She has also performed with such luminaries as Hank Jones, Johnny Griffin, Russell Malone, John Clayton, Toots Thielemans, Benny Golson, and many others.
Dee is a proud inductee into the British Columbia Entertainment Hall of Fame and Walk of Fame and the University of Montanas School of Fine Arts Hall of Honor and has received the Commemorative Medal for the Golden Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the creation of the Dee Daniels Jazz Vocal Scholarship in the Jazz Music Department at Capilano College (North Vancouver, BC), and several awards of recognition for her contributions in the field of music education.
She is the guest vocalist on the new CD Crossover Xmas by the Baden Baden Symphony Orchestra of Germany. Her most recent solo CD is Feels So Good, and she has also just released her first DVD, Dee Daniels Live at Biblo.
