It Just Wouldn't Be the Holidays Without Holiday POPS!
11/17/2004Only in its fifth year, Holiday POPS! has quickly become a Philadelphia tradition, with sold-out performances. To meet the demand for this wonderful concert, an additional performance has been added on Tuesday, December 7th, giving POPS fans a total of six Holiday concerts to choose from!
Faith Prince is best known for her Tony-winning performance as Miss Adelaide in the 1992 Broadway revival of Guys and Dolls, for which she also won Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle awards. On Broadway she has been in a variety of productions, including Bells Are Ringing; Jerome Robbins. Broadway; Nick and Nora; Little Me with Martin Short; James Joyce.s The Dead; The King and I, and Falsettoland. On television, Faith performed for five seasons on Spin City, and for one season on the short-lived Now and Again. Other television appearances include the PBS special My Favorite Broadway; Welcome to New York; Law & Order; High Society; Encyclopedia, the Hallmark Hall of Fame film A Season of Miracles, and the upcoming Fox drama House.
Gioacchino Lauro Li Vigni, a 2003 graduate of Philadelphia.s renowned Academy of Vocal Arts, returns to perform in his third Holiday POPS! concert series. He made his debut at New York.s Metropolitan Opera on January 23, 2004 as Krushschev in the opera Boris Godunov. He will return to The Met during the 2004-2005 season in Nabucco, Der Rosenkavalier and Samson et Dalila. Many critics and fans considered his performance as Edgardo in Donizetti.s Lucia di Lammermoor one of the highlights of the 2003 opera season in Philadelphia. He reprised this role for Thessaloniki Opera (Greece) in October 2004, under the stage direction of legendary soprano Renata Scotto. Mr. Li Vigni resides in Philadelphia with his wife and two daughters.
Concertgoers will be delighted with the reading of the holiday classic .Twas the Night Before Christmas by everyone.s favorite Fire Commissioner, Harold Hairston! Recently retired after nearly 40 years in Philadelphia.s Fire Department, Mr. Hairston is involved with many charities in the region, as well as consulting for CBS 3 television station. Joining Peter and The POPS again is The Pops Festival Chorus, singing aficionados who come from all over the Delaware Valley. Led by Chorus Director Jeffrey Kern, the audience will be regaled with The Little Drummer Boy, the Hallelujah Chorus and many other traditional holiday favorites.
Returning for an encore performance this year is The University of the Arts Gospel Choir, whose big, vibrant sound will rock the house with music of the ages!
Performances begin on Wednesday, December 1st at 8 pm; Thursday, December 2nd at 8 pm; Saturday, December 4th at 2 pm; Sunday, December 5th at 3 pm; Monday, December 6th at 8 pm and Tuesday, December 7th at 2 pm.
