Harold Arlen was born on February 15, 1905 in Buffalo, New York, and began singing at the age of seven.  He developed a passion for jazz, and by 15 years of age he was the leader of his own band, in which he sang, played the piano and wrote the musical arrangements.  Moving to New York City, at the age of 25 he was writing music for The Cotton Club, where he joined Cab Calloway, Ethel Waters and Duke Ellington, all legends in the making.  Harold Arlen also wrote the scores for countless movies, including The Wizard of Oz.  Many of the songs he wrote are today considered classics of American music

Singing these timeless songs for Philly Pop.s fans is Marin Mazzie and Jason Danieley.  Married since 1997, they perform on Broadway and London stages, as well as concert halls around the nation.    Ms. Mazzie.s theater credits include Kiss Me, Kate; her Tony-award winning performance in Ragtime; Passion; Into the Woods; and Big River

Mr. Danieley made his Broadway debut in 1997 in the title role of Candide.  He went on to appear in the Broadway and London productions of The Full Monty from October 2000 to September 2002.  Appearances in Strike Up The Band, Broadway Bash and Allegro, as well as national and international tours of The Phantom of the Opera; Hair and The Music of the Night are included in Mr. Danieley.s repertoire.

The couple has created and performed . to critical acclaim . an evening of duets for the American Songbook Series at Lincoln Center.  A frequent guest of both symphony and pops orchestras across the nation, they are performing for a second time with Peter Nero and the Philly Pops.

Making its first appearance of the 2004-2005 season is The Voices of the POPS, the resident chorus for Peter Nero and the Philly Pops.  Led by chorus director Jeffrey Kern, The Voices will provide even more musical magic for the evening!
