Last Minute Funding Secures the POPs 10th Anniversary Concert on Independence Mall, Sunday, July 3, 2011, 8:30 pm06/13/2011June 13, 2011 -- Peter Nero and the Philly Pops today announced that it has received a last-minute funding commitment from the Greater Philadelphia Traditions Fund that will allow its 10th Anniversary Independence Day Concert to go forward on July 3rd, 2011 on Independence Mall.
Frank Giordano, President of Peter Nero and the Philly Pops, said: �The Fourth of July festivities in Philadelphia without Peter Nero and the Philly Pops performing on Independence Mall would not be the same. Last Friday we reached out to Congressman Brady.� Over the weekend the Congressman and Mayor Nutter provided the commitment to make our Independence Day concert a reality. They have secured funding not just for the 15,000 people who take great pleasure in this annual concert but for all Philadelphians who take pride in making our city�s July 4th festivities second to none in the nation.�
Grammy-winning Music Director Peter Nero said, �Bob Brady has been not only a personal friend for many years but a supporter of the Philly Pops since its inception.� In recent years, he has become the go-to guy in Philadelphia when our traditions become threatened in tough financial times. Saving our annual July 3rd concert is just another example of the legacy of the Greater Philadelphia Traditions Fund � a legacy which Peter Nero and the Philly Pops are proud to be a part of.��
Congressman Robert A. Brady said, �As long as I represent Pennsylvania�s First Congressional District -- home to the birthplace of our nation -- and as long as Peter Nero is willing to conduct The Philly Pops during Philadelphia�s Fourth of July celebrations, there will be a Philly Pops concert on Independence Mall.�
Brady concluded, �I am grateful that the Board of the Greater Philadelphia Traditions Fund and its corporate and individual funders view this concert as I do: a Philadelphia tradition that we cannot afford to lose.�
Last year, more than 15,000 people brought blankets, lawn chairs and picnics to the lawn at Independence Hall to enjoy Peter Nero and Philly Pops� festive patriotic concert. Perfect for the entire family, this concert under the stars begins at 8:30 pm.

�POPS on�Independence��celebrates the birth of our nation with a free performance of great American music including stirring patriotic anthems, rousing marches, and the quintessentially American sounds of big band, Broadway, and film scores. Seating is first come, first served, and the concert will be performed without intermission.� This annual concert has traditionally drawn a picnic-loving crowd and as in previous years, the audience is encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs, and picnic baskets to the lawn of Independence Mall and celebrate�America�s birthday with �the best orchestra of its kind in the entire cosmos.�
