Portrait of Maestro Peter Nero Created by Renowned Artist Michael Witte to Celebrate 25th Anniversary
A portrait of Peter Nero, Conductor and Music Director of The Philly Pops, has been created by renowned caricaturist Michael Witte and is available exclusively at Intermission The Gift Shop at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. The portrait will be unveiled to the press and the public at 2:00 pm on March 17th in the lobby of the Kimmel Center.
It is truly an honor to be a subject of one of Americas best artists, Michael Witte! said Peter Nero. He really captured the joy and excitement I feel when making music with our great Philly Pops.
Michael Wittes work has been enjoyed by millions on the covers and pages of many notable publications, including The New Yorker, Rolling Stone, Esquire, Time, Sports Illustrated, GQ and Entertainment Weekly. His elegant curvilinear style is very contemporary, yet draws on the historical influences of many other celebrated illustrators, from Daumier to Hirschfeld.
Im honored to have been selected as the artist to capture the essence of the Nero physiognomy for The Philly Pops, said Michael Witte. I have long admired Peters music and Philly has of recent years become my adopted city, as my son Spencer is presently a senior at Penn. My best wishes to Peter and the Philly Pops for a smashing 2004 season.
A limited edition of 125 prints is available, all signed by the artist. Peter Nero will sign only the first 25 prints, and they will be offered for sale at a premium price.
This unique work of art was commissioned by Encores Series, Inc., the presenting organization for Peter Nero and the Philly Pops, and Terry Marek, proprietor of Intermission Shops in Chestnut Hill and The Kimmel Center. A portion of the proceeds from sales of the portrait will benefit The POPS orchestra.
