04/08/04
Tune in to WPHT 1210 AM Radio on Sunday, April 18th at 11 am for a very special conversation with two Philadelphia music legends Sid Mark and Peter Nero about one of the best singers of the 20th century, Frank Sinatra!
In addition to conducting The Philly Pops for the past 25 years, Peter Nero performs with symphony orchestras across North America. And part of his program includes the music of Frank Sinatra.
We do about 24 of Sinatras all-time favorites in our concerts, said Peter. A lot of them are the original orchestrations by Nelson Riddle, Don Costa and Axel Stordahl, blown up for full orchestra. Theyll be phrased as Sinatra would have done them, but there will never be a vocalist in my concert because there was only one Frank.
Listeners will be certain to hear some of Peters wonderful stories about his friendship with Frank Sinatra, and the good old days in the clubs in Manhattan and Las Vegas. I stayed at Franks place in Palm Springs a few times, said Peter. It was always great fun to be in his company.
Sid Mark is the nations leading authority on the music of Frank Sinatra, which he has been broadcasting for nearly 45 years. His The Sounds of Sinatra show, heard every Saturday on WPHT 1210 AM, is syndicated to over 100 radio stations around the United States. The Sunday with Sinatra show can be heard throughout the tri-state area, thanks to WPHTs 50,000-watt signal.
