PHILADELPHIA, PA (February 1, 2013) � It will be historic, sentimental and unquestionably filled with unscripted delights, when Peter Nero and the Philly POPS� present their last Kimmel Center concert series with Nero as conductor and music director, presenting a program of epic Broadway hits from The Great White Way.�Super POPS! Broadway� will fill Verizon Hall at The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts with America�s most unforgettable show tunes delivered in the POPS� signature virtuosic style on Friday, May 10 at 8 p.m., and Saturday, May 11 and 12 at 3 p.m. The series is the final program of the 34th season since the creation of the official POPS orchestra in Philadelphia where Peter Nero has been the founding music director since its first concert on November 25, 1979.
A giant of jazz piano, as well as a consummate conductor, arranger and a master showman, Nero will perform his unique arrangements and conduct the POPS from the piano, in a program that promises to be classic, timeless and musically spectacular.
Nero was recognized with thunderous applause at the end of January in Philadelphia�s City Council chambers when he was presented with an official Proclamation by Councilman at Large James Kenney, citing the Maestro�s lasting and exceptional impact on the city and the region. Nero will conduct the annual July 3rd POPS concert at Independence Hall as well.
