A Tribute to Philadelphia�s Legendary Place in Music History
Leads a Season Inspired by Simon & Garfunkel, Marvin Hamlisch, John Williams and the Original Stars of Broadway�s Jersey Boys
PHILADELPHIA, PA (March 11, 2013) � Encore Series, Inc., the presenter of The Philly POPS, is pleased to introduce an exciting series of concerts for the 2013-2014 concert season beginning July 2013 under the new leadership of Music Director and Conductor Michael Krajewski. The season reflects the creative instincts of Krajewski, a nationally recognized Pops conductor who performs with orchestras throughout the country. The season begins with a celebration of Philadelphia, followed by the Sounds of Simon and Garfunkel and then a salute to Marvin Hamlisch (featuring Donna McKechnie who starred in �A Chorus Line�). It continues with the movie music of legendary John Williams and ends with the four original stars of Broadway�s �Jersey Boys� now known as the Midtown Men in the music of the 60�s!
Krajewski is honored to take on this new post with The Philly POPS and said recently, �Peter Nero has built an outstanding orchestra with an excellent reputation throughout the country. I look forward to continuing the success of The Philly POPS and bringing my own personal touch to this great orchestra.� Maestro Nero will continue his association with The Philly POPS as Music Director Emeritus and will guest conduct the Pops at the Cape May Convention Center on May 25th, at Independence Hall on July 3, and in Trenton, NJ, both the latter events marking 12 consecutive years.
The Philly POPS concerts will continue to be presented in a series of Friday evenings at 8 p.m., followed by Saturday and Sunday matinees at 3 p.m. at Verizon Hall of the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts on Avenue of the Arts in Philadelphia.

� October 11-13, 2013 - VIVA PHILADELPHIA!
It�s a celebration of Philadelphia�s Italian spirit, demonstrating Maestro Krajewski�s special love for vocal music. The talents of the �POPerazzi� vocal trio, Philadelphia�s own singing sensation Eddie Bruce and The POPS Festival Chorus will deliver tributes to Mario Lanza, Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra and Andrea Bocelli. Instrumental arrangements from The Godfather will be on the program along with neighborhood favorites like Funiculi Funicula, That�s Amore and even Philadelphia Freedom, which captures the heart and soul of the passionate fans of our South Philly sports teams.

Ring in the holidays with Philadelphia�s treasured tradition, Holiday POPS! Guest Conductor David Charles Abell will lead special guests and a variety of spectacular choirs including The POPS Festival Chorus with a rousing program that has become a festive favorite for the whole family.
� February 7-9, 2014 - THE SOUNDS OF SIMON AND GARFUNKEL
The music is legendary -- Bridge Over Troubled Water, The Sound of Silence, Mrs. Robinson, The Boxer and America, to name a few! The national touring duo, who hailed from Bethlehem, PA -- AJ Swearingen and Jonathan Beedle � sing this cherished music of the 60�s and 70�s with orchestrations by our own Maestro Krajewski. Together, these artists bring their heartfelt interpretations of the music of Simon and Garfunkel to the stage with these memorable songs.
� March 14-16, 2014 - MARVIN HAMLISCH � A MUSICAL TRIBUTE
From �A Chorus Line� to �The Way We Were,� Marvin Hamlisch will always be an American treasure. Three of Broadway�s most acclaimed vocalists -- Donna McKechnie, star of Hamlisch�s �A Chorus Line,� Jodi Benson and Doug LaBrecque -- join guest conductor Larry Blank and honor the work of America�s leading composer for the stage, screen and recording. The concert will incorporate the music and personal recollections of the late composer, who was the winner of multiple Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony awards, as well as a Pulitzer Prize and two Golden Globes.
� April 4-6, 2014 - THE MAGICAL MUSIC OF JOHN WILLIAMS
Movie blockbusters are the theme of this spring Philly POPS concert when the music of the legendary John Williams, one of the world�s most beloved living symphonic composers, is featured. It will include unforgettable music from Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Harry Potter, Jurassic Park, Schindler�s List and more. The POPS Festival Chorus joins Philly POPS music director and conductor Michael Krajewski.
� May 16-18, 2014 - SIXTIES HITS FEATURING THE MIDTOWN MEN
The original cast members of Broadway�s Jersey Boys -- Tony� Award-winner Christian Hoff, Michael Longoria, Daniel Reichard and Tony� Award nominee J. Robert Spencer -- are now the Midtown Men. The quartet joins conductor Michael Krajewski as The POPS perform Top 40 hits like Sherry, Big Girls Don�t Cry, Can�t Buy Me Love, Happy Together, and other record breakers from the phenomenal �60s artists.
Krajewski, who takes the helm in his first season with The Philly POPS in October, is a much sought after conductor who has appeared with symphonies throughout the United States, Canada and around the world. He takes on his Philadelphia post while serving as principal pops conductor of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the Houston Symphony, and the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra - the first to hold such a title in Atlanta.
In addition to serving as guest conductor with The Philadelphia Orchestra at The Mann Center for the Performing Arts in the summer of 2012, he has led the Cleveland Orchestra, the Boston and Cincinnati Pops, the San Francisco, Baltimore, Detroit, Indianapolis, Seattle, Dallas, St. Louis and National Symphonies, and numerous other orchestras across the United States. In Canada, he has led Ottawa�s National Arts Centre Orchestra, the Calgary Philharmonic, and the Edmonton, Winnipeg and Kitchener-Waterloo Symphonies. And, internationally his appearances include performances with the Hong Kong Philharmonic, the Iceland Symphony Orchestra and the Ulster Orchestra in concerts in Belfast and Dublin. He has recorded two albums with the Houston Symphony and has collaborated with such artists as flutist James Galway, Roberta Flack, Art Garfunkel, mezzo soprano Marilyn Horne and many others
