Peter Nero Plays The Steinway Peace Piano Raising Money for UNICEF!10/13/2004Peter Nero will play the Peace Piano in two concerts of his upcoming Fright Night series, to raise money for UNICEF, the United Nations Children Fund and CAN, Cure Autism Now, a national charity with a Philadelphia chapter.
"I am really happy to be involved in this fundraising effort for kids," said Peter Nero. "UNICEF does a terrific job around the world. But when I was asked to participate in this, I felt very strongly that we needed to include a local childrens charity, to help kids right here in the Philadelphia area. I have been involved with CAN and know what a good job they do, so I wanted to bring them into this event, too."
Peter Nero and the Philly Pops opening concert of the 2004-2005 season is Fright Night, a concert of horror film music, perfect for Halloween. Peter will play the Peace Piano during two of The POPS concerts: at The Trenton War Memorial on Saturday evening, October 30th and in Verizon Hall on Sunday afternoon, October 31st. Concertgoers will have an opportunity to donate to both UNICEF and CAN at each concert, and online at The POPS website, www.phillypops.com.
Steinway and Sons created the specially designed concert grand piano to increase the publics awareness of UNICEF and to raise money for children in need through the joy of music. For the next three years, the Peace Piano will tour the world in a series of special events and concerts to generate awareness and funding for childrens projects. The Peace Piano marks the culmination of Steinway & Sons 150th anniversary celebration. Peter Nero has been a Steinway artist for over 40 years.
The Fright Night concert series starts on Wednesday, October 27th at 8 pm and continues on Friday October 29th at 8 pm; Saturday October 30th at 2 pm and Sunday October 31st at 3 pm. Performances are in Verizon Hall at The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. An additional performance will be held at The Trenton War Memorial, in Trenton, New Jersey on Saturday October 30th at 8 pm.
